Golden Journal Number 45
Fleet Air Arm
Several times a year, when we feel like it, the Golden Journal brings Gold Club members some fun extras for their Avalanche Press games. Our new-model Golden Journal features a “real” booklet, just like a small magazine, and - for this issue - a full-sized set of die-cut playing pieces.
In 1942, Britain’s Royal Navy began to lay down the first of what would become sixteen “light fleet carriers.” This ship would be more capable than the converted liners and cargo vessels turned into escort carriers, but not as advanced as the fleet carriers – and most importantly, not as expensive and much faster to build They would be disposable warships, to give a few years’ wartime service and then head to the scrapyard. Instead, they carried on for decades after the war, with one enduring in service until 2001.
Fleet Air Arm adds these ships, and many more – escorting cruisers and destroyers and even a few battleships – to your Plan Z universe. You get the full 210 pieces that originally appeared in our long out-of-print East of Suez expansion plus, of course, nine new scenarios so you can play with them (you’ll need Horn of Africa, Tropic of Capricorn, Bismarck and Plan Z).
How do you get it? Only by joining the Gold Club – join up and we’ll tell you how. There’s a shipping charge for it, but it’s so lightweight that it usually adds nothing to the shipping total when you order it with something else. The Golden Journal is free when we first offer it, but then the price rises and it will never, ever be free again.
